Ocean’s 63m² LED screen which overlooks Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester has undergone an upgrade, part of a programme of works across the city to invest in the DOOH network along with the conversion of older backlights to modern digital screens.
The installation of a new full motion landscape screen at Piccadilly Gardens aligns with Manchester City Council’s aspirations for the park, with public works now underway to transform the entire space with new lawns, more trees, a larger playground and improved lighting.
The new look Piccadilly Gardens screen goes live on 2nd November with Scottish Power and The Warehouse Project. The DOOH location delivers 449,598 impacts per fortnight (source: Route/Ipsos).
Download Further investment across the wider Manchester City Council roadside DOOH estate, includes a change to the look and finish of the screens which are now clad in 3mm aluminium panels finished in earth bronze, bearing the famous worker bee emblem and the Manchester City Council logo.
The improvements mean the locations will be easier to maintain and stand the test of time.
Work has also been undertaken to convert several backlights to digital screens. These include the 40m² Mega 6 on Hyde Road; the 36m² B96 on Mancunian Way; and the 40m² Mega 6 on Ashton Old Road.
Brands appearing across the refreshed Manchester DOOH estate this autumn include the BBC, adidas, Lloyds and Sainsbury’s.
Earlier this year, one of Out of Home’s original ‘Ask for it by name’ landmarks, Chester Road Roundabout was reconfigured via a trio of roadside screens designed to target the 100,000 motorists travelling daily in and out of Manchester.
Since then, landscapers have transformed the land surrounding the screens into a wildlife flowering meadow, introducing a new feeding ground for birds and insects. Work on returning Chester Road Roundabout’s surroundings to nature will continue next spring.
