Empowering environmental change through action

Each year, our teams across the UK take part in hands-on volunteering to support local communities and protect the environments we work in.

In 2023, we boosted staff engagement through activities such as litter collection along the canal with the Canal & River Trust, and seasonal wildlife management with the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.

In 2024, we continued our partnership with the Canal & River Trust, taking part in litter picking and canal-side painting projects, while our Scotland team joined a coastal clean-up to help protect local shorelines.

In 2025, our London team headed to West India Docks to remove debris and litter from the Thames riverbed. Working again with one of our Drops in the Ocean charity partners, the Canal & River Trust, we cleared rubbish, de-weeded the area and refreshed the space before the tide came in.

The Canal & River Trust estimates that 14 million pieces of rubbish enter our rivers and canals each year. Of these, around 500,000 are carried out to sea – harming wildlife and polluting ecosystems on a global scale. Our teams are proud to play a small part in reducing this impact.
