After a turbulent 2020, we were glad restrictions started to lift and life started to go back to normal in 2021. Digital Out of Home (DOOH) was once again a key part of brand’s marketing strategies and not only was investment in screens and technology a key player in the success of 2021 but brand’s ability to adapt and continue to be as creative as ever.
As we look forward to a great year in which life fully returns to normal, we wanted to take the chance to look back over our biggest successes of 2021 and share them with you, to make sure you make the most of the opportunities we have on offer to you in 2022.
1. No Time to Die
Our first key moment last year was the James Bond campaign. Due to Covid-19 the film’s release was put back a year and this just meant that momentum and excitement for the film was high once it was nearing release. We saw fantastic campaigns on key screens, such as the IMAX at Waterloo and Piccadilly Lights.
2. Technology and DeepScreen™
2021 was also a huge year for technology here at Ocean Outdoor. We use our screens in many unique ways, such as streaming sporting events and fashion shows from our corporate partnerships and setting up Fanzones so communities can come together and celebrate key events around our screens.
We also launched our ‘Deepscreen™’ templates last year, allowing impressive 3D advertising on some of our biggest screens. There are some fantastic examples of how this has already been used but check out the Balenciaga campaign below and find out more so you can utilise it within your own organisations in 2022 and read more here
3. New Cities
Another key highlight of last year was taking DOOH to new cities and towns in the UK. We launched screens in three new areas – Southampton, Derby and Bournemouth.
Each campaign had its own plan, but in Southampton, alongside the launch we ran a competition for SMEs to win advertising space on the new screen, to help show how DOOH is an invaluable platform, whatever the size of your business. You can find out more about this site and the initiative in our blog.
4. Digital Creative Competition
Our annual creative campaign was once again a huge success. An opportunity for businesses and not-for-profits to compete to win advertising space on our screens, we drafted in a panel to vigorously judge the nominations and they finally decided on Land Rover and Rays of Sunshine as our winners. The event will be taking place again this year so make sure you read up on how to get involved and get to work on your submission!
5. Drops in the Ocean
Last but not least, 2021 saw us maintaining a focus on sustainability and how we could be more sustainable as a business, support environmental causes and use our platforms to talk more about it. One of the ways we did this was through our ‘Drops in the Ocean’ campaign, donating 2% of our revenue to environmental charities in the form of advertising on our screens.
Another campaign we did involved us teaming up with Olympian Hannah Mills for the Big Plastic Pledge on World Oceans Day. See the full article.
There’s some fantastic milestones we’ve achieved in 2021 and it wouldn’t have been possible without our partners, clients and everyone we’ve worked with. Let’s look forward to 2022 and develop some more amazing memories!
