“1 in 100 Million” breaks on World Refugee Day
Refugee Olympic Team boxer, Cindy Ngamba is one of the athletes featuring in a Digital out of home campaign presented by Ocean Outdoor, in support of the Refugee Olympic Team. A three-time English national champion, Ngamba makes history by becoming the first ever refugee boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games.
Timed to mark both World Refugee Day (20 June) and International Olympic Day (23 June), the IOC’s “1 in 100 million” campaign runs for four days in key cities including Glasgow and London, as part of Ocean’s countdown to Paris 2024.
The work features the formidable sporting talents of Refugee Olympic Team athletes, including Ngamba, Dorsa Yavarivafa (badminton), Ramiro Mora (weightlifting) and Refugee Athlete Scholarship-holder Kavan Majidi (judo).
Produced by the IOC in partnership with the creative agency Gravity Road, the campaign draws attention to the scale of the global refugee crisis, and calls on everyone to get behind the team as they represent 100 million+ forcibly displaced people on the world’s greatest sporting stage.
“1 in 100 Million” hopes to mobilise global support, encouraging sports fans to follow the athletes’ journey through @RefugeeOlympicTeam and show their support on social media with #ForThe100Million.
Kevin Henry, Ocean Outdoor UK head of content and sponsorship, said: “Ocean is donating its screen space as a show of support for some truly remarkable athletes. We’d like to thank the IOC for giving us a chance to mark World Refugee Day with another inspirational milestone in our ongoing countdown to Paris 2024.”
Ocean will bring sports lovers across the UK closer to the action from Paris, with official Team GB fan zones planned for the duration of the Games at Battersea Power Station in London; Spinningfields Manchester; and the Edinburgh St James Quarter retail and leisure destination.
Ocean Labs will also create six other Team GB fan zones in Birmingham’s St Martin’s Square at Bullring and Grand Central; Bristol Cabot Circus; Southampton West Quay; Liverpool ONE; and Grosvenor Square in London.
The broadcast partner is the BBC.
Ocean is the only UK media owner to hold long term partnerships with four organisations recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), having signed official partnerships with ParalympicsGB and Special Olympics GB in 2022. In March this year, Ocean announced its fourth partnership with UK Deaf Sport and Deaflympics GB.
To date, 2,035 Ocean screens across Europe have shown Olympics related Paris 2024 content.
