Wanted: the winner of the DOOH Grand Prix

Get a chance to win an advertising campaign on some of Europe’s most sought-after Digital Out Of Home (DOOH) screens. The opportunity for agencies and brands to surprise their audience with original and innovative work. For the first Ocean Outdoor DOOH Grand Prix 2024, the ultimate prize is a DOOH campaign worth €100,000 at seven European locations of stature, including:

London’s Piccadilly Lights, the grand dame of out of home is the ultimate starting point for integrated global campaigns.

Amsterdam’s Leidseplein, a vibrant square in the heart of the city, the hub for nightlife and entertainment and cultural attractions such as the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the Concertgebouw concert hall.

Stockholm’s Halo, a globally unique DOOH installation spanning 3 floors in the Westfield Mall of Scandinavia.

The Iconic, located in Field’s, the largest shopping centre in Copenhagen and Denmark.

Redi Icon in Helsinki, a unique corner screen in the largest shopping centre in the centre of Helsinki.

The Cube, with four full motion screens, above the entrance to Oslo’s bus terminal in Norway.

The starting point for this new Grand Prix are Ocean Outdoor’s annual digital creative competitions, which now take place separately in the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. (Newcomer Ocean Germany will soon join the process when a DOOH venue is announced).

A total of 30 winners (gold, silver and bronze) will be chosen in two categories – commercial and non-profit. They will be given space on Ocean’s screens in their entry country to bring their campaigns to life. Then, the 13 gold prize winners, selected by the independent jury, will compete for the ultimate prize: the Ocean Grand Prix.

Ocean’s 13

The Grand Prix is the grand prize. While the 13 contenders will be judged on their original gold-winning concepts submitted by country, the winner can use Ocean’s screen space for a brand campaign of their choice.

In addition to awarding €100,000 in advertising space, Ocean Studios will film the brand campaign, creating an asset that can be shared across the Grand Prix winner’s own digital and social channels.

Helen Haines, head of brand and events at Ocean Outdoor, said, “Our Digital Creative Competition is about challenging the minds of the creative industry by asking them to bring bold new ideas to DOOH. We are looking for original concepts that pay tribute to the creativity of our medium by harnessing its potential in terms of place, environment and technology.

“The introduction of the competition in seven Ocean countries gives us the opportunity to create a new prize by choosing a final winner that shows how OOH is disrupting the status quo. The Ocean Grand Prix will be awarded to one brand or agency that recognises the superpower of DOOH to turn an idea into an enviable, international multi-channel opportunity.”

How to win

Ocean’s individual national Digital Creative Competitions close on 23 August and the winners will be announced on 9 October (10 October in the Netherlands). Each country presents several gold, silver and bronze awards for the best commercial and non-profit ideas.

In late November, the 13 gold winners will advance to the Grand Prix, which will be determined by an international panel of OOH and creative experts. The winner will be announced in January 2025.

The final crowning of the winners will be determined based on:

– How the Golden winners collaborated to realise their idea with their respective agencies or clients

– How DOOH helps the idea seamlessly deliver something new and innovative

– How globally appealing the concept is in terms of originality and creative skill

– How well the DOOH idea works alongside other media as part of an integrated campaign

– How the jury sees value for the brand in pushing boundaries, gaining attention and achieving business goals
