Submissions open: Ocean Outdoor simultaneously rolls out Digital Creative Competition across Europe

One brand wins first Grand Prix
Ocean Outdoor is relaunching its annual Digital Creative Competition and rolling it out simultaneously in the other Ocean countries; the UK, Scandinavia and Germany. A new prize has also been added where winners from the countries can compete for the annual Grand Prix. The winner will be announced in 2025.

Ocean’s annual competition has been around for 15 years and is being held this year for the 5th year in a row in the Netherlands. The competition challenges participants to develop bold ideas and imaginative concepts that push the creative boundaries of Out of Home. All by using the latest Digital out of home (DOOH) technology on screens of unique formats in high-impact locations. Campaigns by previous winners have won several Cannes Lions awards.

Entries for all seven competitions, which will be judged by a jury in their respective countries, open on 25 March. The closing date is 23 August and the winners will be announced simultaneously on 10 October.

Richard Malton, CMO of Ocean Group, says: “Oceans Digital Creative Competition was originally designed to showcase the potential of what was then a new, emerging and innovative media channel. Fifteen years on, we are still encouraging the best original ideas and Out of Home is evolving as a brand-building channel and the gateway to global success. Out of Home continues to evolve; a combination of better screens, new formats, cutting-edge technology and viewing data offers brands, agencies and creatives even more opportunities to create ground-breaking work. This will be seen and remembered far beyond the physical realm.”

All you need is an idea

The jury will judge the entries within two categories: Profit and Non-Profit. In both categories, the numbers one, two and three will win an amount in gross media value. The amounts are fully deployable on Ocean Outdoor Netherlands’ digital screens.

What is also new is that this year the 14 first prize winners will advance to the Grand Prix, which will be announced in January 2025. The Grand Prix prize is a campaign on premium screens in all 7 Ocean countries, creating a global platform for the winning entry. Ocean operates in the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands. Earlier this year, the company opened an office in Germany.

To keep the submission process simple, concepts should include jpeg images or a short video combined with a written story of 200 words.
